Restoring files on OneDrive

  • To restore a file to a previous version, open OneDrive for Business in a web browser
  • Right-click the document to restore, then click ‘Version History’  
  • You will see a list of previous version  
  • Decide which date/time you wish to restore from
  • Hover the cursor to the right of the date/time, click the ellipses (…) then choose either to ‘Restore’ or ‘Open file’  

Restoring files from your N drive

There is a file / folder restore service available in Windows which you can use yourself to:

  • Restore a current file to an earlier time
  • Restore a deleted file or folder

To restore data either: right click on the file itself or right click on the folder it was contained in (if deleted). From the menu that appears, select “Restore previous versions”. This will open a menu that contains dated backups for this folder that you can open and explore.


  • An automatic backup is taken of student N drive data each morning at 7:00am
  • Online backups are also taken of student data during the evening


  • An automatic backup is taken of staff N drive data at 7:00am (Monday to Friday)
  • Online backups are also taken of staff data during the evening, but these have to be requested rather than self served
